Slovak government agreed to raise the offered stake in privatization of Slovenske Elektrarne (SE) from original 49% to 66%. Moreover, it decide to accept only bids for whole SE, including conventional and nuclear assets, in the first round of the privatization. If it fails to find a buyer in the first round, the investors could bid for the individual parts of SE separately.
Only CEZ and Russian RAO UES were initially interested in whole SE, which makes them slight favorites of the privatization. It would depend on Slovak government’s stance towards the offer of the cash rich Russian investor. If it would follow the same “strategic interests” like its Czech counterpart in privatization of Unipetrol, it would increase chances of CEZ. Nevertheless, it cannot be completely ruled out and the privatization interests of the other investors changed and that the number of investors willing to buy whole SE would increase.
