Vice-chairman of the NPF Pavel Kuta said that already 16 companies are interested in privatization of Unipetrol. Out of which, 11 received information memorandum and the remaining five were asked to provide additional information. The interest in Unipetrol was earlier confirmed by MOL, PKN Orlen (together with Agrofert), Penta and KazMunaiGaz. The other investors reportedly include Borsodchem, CEE Privat Equity Fund, Romar Oil, Lobsters, Bohemia Best, Kazakhan Investment Company, Vitkovice Research and Development, Shell a Eni (Agip). On the contrary, OMV and Rotch Energy did not take part in the privatization tender. Another investors can take part in privatization of Unipetrol until 12 January. The government plans to finish the privatization in March 2004.
The increased number of investors is positive for Unipetrol’s shares due to the expected buyout after the privatization is completed. Higher number of bidders implies higher competition with positive impact on offered price. Moreover, the investors can still form consortia, which would further boost their financial power. We expect creation of strong consortium from companies MOL, PKN Orlen and Borsodchem.
