Moody’s rating agency announced that it raised long term foreign currency rating for eight candidate countries that should join the European Union in 2004 including Czech Republic. The agency improved the rating of the Czech Republic from Baa1 to A1. Moody’s said that it placed Komercni banka, Ceska Sporitelna, CSOB and Zivnostenska banka on credit watch with possible improvement in their ratings. The improvement of sovereign rating raised the ceiling for ratings of domestic institutions.
