93% of EU businesses apply ICT security measures
In 2024, 93% of EU enterprises applied at least 1 measure to ensure integrity, availability and confidentiality of their data and ICT systems.
This information comes from data on ICT usage and e-commerce in enterprises published by Eurostat today. The article presents a handful of findings from the more detailed Statistics Explained article on ICT security in enterprises.

The most common security measure used by enterprises was strong password authentication (84%), followed by data backup to a separate location (79%) and network access control (65%). The least common measure was authentication via biometric methods (18%).

Looking at national level, the highest share of enterprises which used at least 3 ICT security measures were registered in Finland (93%), followed by Denmark (90%), the Netherlands and Germany (both 87%). By contrast, enterprises in Greece (52%), Bulgaria and Romania (both 53%) reported the lowest share.

Methodological notes
- Data come from the EU survey on ICT usage and e-commerce in enterprises and refer to all enterprises with at least 10 employees or self-employed persons (in NACE Rev. 2 sections C to J, L to N and group 95.1). Further methodological information related to the survey can be found in the relevant section.
- ‘Enterprises using ICT security measure’ refers to selected security measures included in the relevant question in the 2024 survey model questionnaire. These ICT security measures are presented in the first graph in this news item.
