On 18 November 2024 – The Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus, Mr. Roman Masarik, visited the Higher Institute of Business Administration (HIBA) in Damascus, marking another milestone for the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus in the strong academic and cultural relations between the Czech Republic and Syria.

Mr. Masarik was warmly received by Dr. Talal Abboud, Dean of HIBA; Dr. Haitham Al-Zaim, Vice Dean; along with the heads of departments and members of the Institute's Council.

During the visit, Mr. Masarik delivered an insightful presentation on the diversity and excellence of Czech universities, emphasizing their achievements in various academic fields. Mr. Masarik highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between Syrian and Czech universities, proposing initiatives to support HIBA in academic exchange, research projects, and participation in embassy-organized activities.

“The historical connections between Syrian and Czech universities lay a strong foundation for future academic cooperation,” Mr. Masarik remarked. He also elaborated on the Czech academic system and shared an overview of the Czech Republic’s contributions to global education.

Dr. Talal Abboud, Dean of HIBA, provided an overview of the Institute’s establishment, noting that it was founded with a grant from the European Union. He detailed existing agreements between HIBA and European universities and reiterated the Institute’s commitment to fostering international partnerships to enhance its academic offerings and research capabilities.

As part of his visit, Mr. Masarik toured the Institute, exploring its departments and meeting with students. During discussions, he listened to the students’ daily challenges and shared insights about life and education in the Czech Republic. Faculty and students alike expressed their gratitude for the visit, appreciating the opportunity for direct dialogue and the potential for future collaboration.
