Cooler temperatures and mostly clear skies expected today after a busy start to the weekend
March 10 9:00am ET - Cooler temperatures and mostly clear skies expected today after a busy start to the weekend.
The scattered severe storms largely struggled to develop (thankfully) with this last event, but a few strong/severe storms producing isolated/scattered damaging wind gusts occurred and we are surveying likely tornado damage in Dale County, Alabama (preliminary results posted later). Rainfall was heaviest across our counties to the north and west. Many locations here received rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches with localized higher amounts. This caused several issues with localized flooding in Alabama and into portions of Georgia.
Riverine flooding will be the main concern over the next several days in the wake of very heavy rainfall from the previous 24 hrs. Multiple rivers are either currently in flood or forecast to reach at least minor flood stage within the next day or so. The most impacted basins are the Flint, Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Choctawhatchee as we closely monitor how much water comes downstream from upstream dam releases and the heavier rainfall to the north.
In the meantime, a period of dry weather is expected through much of the week before another wet pattern appears to return around this weekend and just beyond.
