Minister Lipavsky discussed the reconstruction of Ukraine with EIB President Hoyer

Financing the reconstruction of Ukraine and the cooperation of the Czech government, the banking sector and companies with the European Investment Bank (EIB). These were the main topics of the meeting between Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and EIB President Werner Hoyer, which took place on Monday 15 May 2023 at the Czernin Palace.
The Minister mentioned the Government's programme to support Ukraine and the recent contribution of CZK 10 million to the EIB fund to support technical cooperation in Ukraine. "Czechia has a long-standing partnership with Ukraine at the level of government, local administration, non-profit, academic and private sectors. We have a lot to offer in the context of Ukraine's alignment with the EU. That is why we want to participate in the expert cooperation offered by the European Investment Bank to Ukraine," the Minister stressed.
EIB President Werner Hoyer, who has headed the EIB since 2012, is currently working to establish a strong fund to finance Ukraine's reconstruction, to which he envisages EUR 20 billion to mobilise investment in Ukraine's reconstruction.
During the meeting, the head of Czech diplomacy pointed to concrete activities of Czech companies and non-profit organisations in Ukraine in the fields of healthcare, energy, agriculture and education. "In dialogue with the European Investment Bank, we want to find ways to reduce the risks associated with investing in Ukraine in times of war," Lipavský said.
The EIB is a major investor in Ukraine. During the more than year-long conflict in Ukraine, it has spent more than EUR 1 billion on rapid assistance to Ukraine and countries hosting Ukrainian refugees, including the Czech Republic.
Another topic has been working with the EIB's new global division, particularly in Africa. Here, both sides agreed that investment opportunities in Africa for Czech companies should be better promoted.
