Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Tlapa received the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia

On April 7, 2022, Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Tlapa received Ambassador Abdullah Muteb Alrashid, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Deputy Minister discussed with the Ambassador the possibilities of further strengthening the relations, incl. dialogue on topics of common interest, the preparations of the Joint Economic Commission session, the forthcoming Czech-GCC Investment Forum and the exchange of views on developments in the Middle East region. The Ambassador praised the Czech approach to resolving the humanitarian situation of refugees from Ukraine.
Relations between the Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia are based on significant trade, which in 2021 exceeded USD 460 million. In connection with the need to diversify the sources of oil and gas supplies, trade cooperation in this area could also take place in the future. Political contacts have intensified recently. Last year, consultations took place at the level of Deputy Ministers. Both parties are working for an early meeting of the Joint Economic Commission. The Czech side is also interested in foreign investments and is preparing a forum with the participation of representatives of major sovereign wealth funds from the Arabian Gulf countries.
Saudi Arabia has a large supply of minerals, not only oil, the extraction of which is of great interest to develop. The Saudi Government is massively supporting industrial capacity building. Czech companies are interested in participating in the form of subcontracting to some megaprojects implemented by the Saudi government under the Vision 2030 program. There is a great interest in cooperation in the field of defense industry and the development of modern technologies.
