On the occasion of the Day of the Establishment of the Independent Czechoslovak State on October 28, President of the Republic Milo Zeman traditionally awarded state awards for outstanding services to the Czech Republic. One of the awarded personalities was also Alfred Duff Cooper, 1st Viscount Norwich (1890-1954).
The British politician, diplomat and writer was a sharp critic of the policy of appeasement during the government of Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and the only member of the British cabinet who denounced the signing of the 1938 Munich Agreement and resigned on his position. Viscount Norwich was awarded the Order of the White Lion of the 1st Class Civic Group, in memoriam.
The Order of the White Lion is the highest state award of the Czech Republic, which has been awarded since 1922 to people who have made a particularly outstanding contribution to Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. Due to the illness of the President, the award ceremony will take place on January 1st, 2022.
